¿Desde cuándo realizas obras de arte y collage? Que te incentivó a empezar?
Empecé a hacer dibujos y pinturas de color de agua cuando tenía 4 o 5 años.
Mi abuela Minnie se emocionó tanto cuando hice el arte, que ella me dio premios y regalos, y galletas y dulces. Así que, naturalmente, este fue un gran estímulo. Cuando tenía seis, mi familia me llevó al circo por primera vez, y yo estuve dibujando payasos durante un año después de eso! Curiosamente, mi primer trabajo fue ser payaso en fiestas de cumpleaños de los niños.
Después de esto, me gustaban las ciudades, y todas las tiendas y comercios que recordaba haber visto desde la ventanilla del coche mientras conducíamos a través de Nueva York y Brooklyn.

Since when you make art and collage? What encourage you to start?
I started making drawings and water color paintings when I was 4 or 5. My grandma Minnie got so excited when I made art, that she gave me rewards and presents, and cookies and candy. So naturally this was a great encouragement. When in was 6, my family took me to the Circus for the first time, and I was drawing clowns for about a year after that! Oddly, my first job was being a clown at children’s birthday parties.
Next, I liked drawing cities, and all the stores and shops that I remembered seeing from the car window as we drove through New York and Brooklyn.

Algunas de sus piezas tienen algún tipo de significado religioso … ¿cómo surgió esto?
Me uní a un grupo de música llamado Medusa en el campo cerca de Seattle (Cuando yo tenía 18 años). Estudiaban sobre magia y misticismo y formaban parte de un mágico Sociedad Secreta, que también me uní.
Por aquel entonces yo tenía una perspectiva muy cínica y enojada sobre la religión, debido a todas las guerras y las torturas que había leído sobre la historia. Entonces me di cuenta de que los conceptos básicos del cristianismo fueron similares a la religión egipcia, y muchas filosofías antiguas, como el paganismo. Sin embargo, siempre me encantaba el arte y las catedrales cristianas cuando los veia en los libros de arte de la escuela. Especialmente la obra de Albrecht Durer- los grabados en madera! Algunas de las obras más impresionantes que he visto en mi vida.

Some of your pieces have some kind of religious significance… how did those came up?
I joined a music group called Medusa in the countryside near Seattle. (When I was 18) They studied alot of magic, and mysticism and were part of a Secret Magical Society, which I also joined. By that time I had a very cynical and angry historic perspective about religion, becuase of all the wars and tortures I’d read about throughout history. Then I realized that the basic concepts of Christianity were similar to Egyptian religion, and many ancient philosophies such as Paganism. However, I always loved Christian Art and Cathedrals when I saw them in Art Books in School. Especially the work of Albrecht Durer- the woodcuts! Some of the most amazing art I have ever seen.

Algunas de tus obras de arte son collages … ¿cuál es el material con el que más te gusta trabajar?

Me gusta tomar las tijeras y cortar revistas y diarios … usar esas imágenes de baja calidad puede ser muy divertido, y luego pinto mis propias ideas sobre ellas!

Some of your art works are collages… whats the material you like to work with the most?
I like taking scissors and cutting up magazines and newpapers… using those low quality images, that can be very funny, and painting my own
ideas over the top of them!

La mayoría de tus obras de arte son muy coloridas: dorado, colores flúos, verde … !!! ¿Cómo te decidís que color poner en cada pieza de arte? ¿Cuáles son tus colores favoritos?
Me gustan esas pinturas transparentes reflectantes que hacen efecto de arco iris cuando los utilizas.

Siempre pinto como hago música. No pienso nada e improviso todo el tiempo. Alcanzo cualquier color, línea o textura que me atrae sin pensar ni considerarla. Soy un artista muy ingenuo e inexperto! Pero siempre he resonado con pinturas y arte! Mi padre me dijo que cuando yo era un bebé y me ponía a llorar, el me sostenía para que pudiera ver una pintura, y entonces dejaba de llorar y me tranquilizaba.

Most of your art pieces are really colourful: golden, fluo, green…!!! How do you decide each colour to put on each art piece? Which are your favourite colours?
I like also those reflective clear paints that make rainbow kinds of effects when you use them. I always do painting like I do music. I don’t plan anything, and I improvise all the time. I reach for whatever color or line or texture that appeals to me without really thinking or considering it. I am a very naive artist, and very untrained! BUT I have always resonated with paintings and art! My father told me that when I cried, as a baby- he discovered that if he held me so that I could see a painting, I would stop crying and become peaceful!

¿De dónde sacas la inspiración? Cada pieza que haces tiene una historia y un significado especial …
Mi inspiración viene por completo de la alegría y la sensación de calma que tengo cuando puedo crear una obra de arte, música o escribir un cuento o un poema. Creo que fue lo que siempre quise hacer, y me encanta hacerlo. Por otro lado, mi inspiración viene de todos lados, porque el rompecabezas en el que vivimos es tan abrumadoramente impresionante y vasto, que casi se rompen nuestras mentes al intentar comprenderlo! Me encantan los paisajes de la naturaleza cerca Seattle; las montañas, los lagos, los ríos y el océano. Y tengo muchas grandes inspiraciones de personajes de la historia: El Bosco, Salvadore Dali, Einstein, Groucho Marx, Jerry Lewis (El actor), John Lennon, Allen Ginsburg- por nombrar algunos de ellos.

Where do you get inspiration from? Each piece you make have a special story and significance…
My inspiration comes entirely from the joy and calm feeling I get when I create some art or music or write a story or a poem. I feel it was what I am meant to do, and I love doing it. On the other hand, I get inspiration almost everywhere in life, becuase the whole puzzle of the world in which we live is so overwhelmingly amazing and vast, that it almost breaks our mind to try and comprehend it! I love many of the sights of nature I saw near Seattle- the mountains, lakes, river and the ocean. And I have many great inspirations from people in history: Hieronymous Bosch, Salvadore Dali, Einstein, Groucho Marx, Jerry Lewis (The actor), John Lennon, Allen Ginsburg- to name some of them.

¿Escuchás música mientras tcreas tus obras de arte? ¿Qué es lo que normalmente escuchás?
Por lo general siempre escucho música todo el día todos los días, y toda la noche todas las noches! Nunca se detiene, y luego sueño con la música también. Mi lista rara vez cambia: Hendrix, SI, Lake y Palmer Emerson, Iggy Pop, Michael Jackson, Música de Órgano Bach, Chopin, Sparks (álbum Kimono My House) Rolling Stones, Beatles, Wendy Carlos, Gentle Giant, Genesis (con Peter Gabriel) , Cream, John Lennon, The Strokes, Rachmaninoff, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Iron Butterfly, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sly and The Family Stone…… ya sabes!

Do you listen to music meanwhile you create your pieces of art? What do you often listen to?
I usually always listen to music all day every day, and all night every night! It never stops, and then I dream about music too. My list rarely changes: Hendrix, YES, Emerson Lake and Palmer, Iggy Pop, Michael Jackson, Bach Organ Music, Chopin, Sparks (Kimono My House album) Rolling Stones, Beatles, Wendy Carlos, Gentle Giant, Genesis (with Peter Gabriel), Cream, John Lennon, The Strokes, Rachmaninoff, Joni Mitchell, Judy Collins, Iron Butterfly, Stevie Wonder, Aretha Franklin, Sly and The Family Stone…… you know!

Estamos muy cerca de la primera muestra de arte aquí en América Latina! en Buenos Aires! ¿Cómo te estás preparado para ello? ¿Cuáles son tus expectativas? y ¿cómo crees que reaccionará la gente al ver tus obras de arte y collage?
Me estoy preparando; ensayando con mi nueva banda llamada The Tears Of Gloom Orchetra, y vamos a tocar en el show de arte! Estoy muy emocionado porque creo que las obras que mostraremos se ven impresionantes en su nuevo formato digital brillante, aún más grandes y más brillantes que los originales!
No me esperaba estar tan emocionado acerca de ellos, pero sí, se ven super cool, interesante y llamativos! Creo que todoi el evento con los artistas deleitará a los asistentes que vienen a experimentar con nosotros! La gente probablemente se reirá y disfrutará mis pinturas!

We are really close to the upcoming first art show here in Latinamerica! in Buenos Aires! How are you getting ready for it? Which are your expectations? and how do you think people will react when seeing your art works and collage?
I am getting ready by rehearsing my new band called The Tears Of Gloom Orchetra, and we will play at the art show! I am so excited becuase I think the works we are showing look amazing in their new shining digital form, even bigger and brighter than the originals!
I didnt expect to get so excited about them, but yes, they look super cool and interesting and flashy! I think that the whole show with all the painters and musicians (Entripao and my band too!) and our Poet; Mong Lan, will delight the partygoers who come to experience with us! People will probably laugh and enjoy my paintings!
