Tell me a bit about yourself.
I am 24, I live in Ukraine. I am a photographer and photo-editor of a magazine about the modern culture of Metropol. I’m interested in modern philosophy and theory of visual culture. I take pictures approximately four years. I am inspired by the bad cinema, old constructivism architecture, travels, and youth as fetish.

Cuéntame un poco sobre ti .

Tengo 24 años , vivo en Ucrania. Soy una fotógrafa y foto- editora de una revista sobre la cultura moderna de Metropol . Estoy interesado en la filosofía moderna y la teoría de la cultura visual . Tomo fotos desde hace aproximadamente cuatro años.

sMe siento inspirado por el cine malo, la arquitectura constructivista antigua, los viajes, y la juventud como fetiche.

Why have you choosen analog?
Analog photography has an aura, it is hylic and real, Walter Benjamin wrote about it. Analog aesthetics fully matches with my work’s problems, and if I use digital camera instead, they would look a little weird. When I started photographing, everyone around me used digital cameras with high resolution. I wanted to apply the process of photographing in a more serious way, and analog photo suited my requirements in a best way, because it makes you to make a conscious choice of an object of shooting, as film number is limited, and film costs some money.

¿Por qué has elegido la cámara analógica?

La fotografía analógica tiene un aura, es hylico y real, Walter Benjamin escribió sobre ella.

La estética analógica encaja plenamente con los problemas de mi trabajo, y si uso la cámara digital en su lugar, se vería un poco raro. Cuando empecé a fotografiar, todos a mi alrededor utiliza cámaras digitales de alta resolución. Yo quería aplicar el proceso de fotografiar de una manera más seria, y la imagen analógica satisfizo mis necesidades en una mejor manera , ya que te hace hacer una elección consciente de un objeto de rodaje, ya que el rollo es limitado, y cuesta dinero.

How would you describe your photos?
Primarily I’m interested in social aspect of photography, how to use it to express my attitude to things occurring in society. I try to do it in a least direct way, I find unobvious, dual objects and situations. I have two vectors of interest: the life of individual and the life of society. Therefore, the frames which can tell an entire history about a person or a social group trough fixing some things, which seem trivial and inconspicuous at the first blush, are particularly valuable for me.

¿Cómo describiría sus fotos?
Principalmente me interesa aspecto social de la fotografía, cómo usarlo para expresar mi actitud hacia las cosas que ocurren en la sociedad. Trato de hacerlo de una forma menos directa, encuentro objetos y situaciones duales. Tengo dos vectores de interés: la vida del individuo y la vida de la sociedad. Por lo tanto, los marcos que puede contar toda una historia sobre una persona o un grupo social a través de arreglar algunas cosas que parecen triviales y poco visible en la primera vista, son particularmente valiosos para mí.

Hοw is life in Ukraine and how has it affected your photography?
I was born in the year of a Soviet Union collapse. My country became independent, also at the same time internet appeared and the world was rapidly globalized. I try to fix the features of social changes, this new history, this new cultural identity, to combine global and local context in my works. Also in the city I live in they have worked such outstanding photographers, as Boris Mikhailov and Sergey Bratkov. Their work extremely influenced me, it even helped me to choose photography as a artistic medium.

¿Cómo es la vida en Ucrania y cómo ha afectado su fotografía?
Nací en el año del colapso de la Unión Soviética. Mi país se independizó, también, al mismo tiempo Internet apareció y el mundo se globaliza rápidamente. Trato de fijar las características de los cambios sociales, esta nueva historia, esta nueva identidad cultural, para combinar contexto global y local en mis obras. También en la ciudad en que vivo han trabajado estos destacados fotógrafos, como Boris Mikhailov y Sergey Bratkov.

Su trabajo influyó en mí, incluso me ayudó a elegir la fotografía como medio artístico.

What would be the ideal future as a photographer?
Also I work as a photo editor in a magazine about modern culture Metropol besides photographing. It’s an ideal mix of work and interest for me, because it freely allows photographing, to be fully focused on process, and to communicate with young photographers from all over the world, to gain experience and develop my skills. There is no ideal formula of being a photographer for me, because I always change, and in all I can’t definitely call myself a photographer in the classic sense of that.

¿Cuál sería el futuro ideal como fotógrafo?
También trabajo como editora de fotos en una revista sobre la cultura moderna Metropol además de fotografiar. Es una mezcla ideal de trabajo y de interés para mí, ya que me permite fotografiar libremente, centrarme totalmente en el proceso, y comunicarme con los jóvenes fotógrafos de todo el mundo, para ganar experiencia y desarrollar mis habilidades. No existe una fórmula ideal de ser un fotógrafo para mí, porque yo siempre cambio, y no puedo definitivamente decir que soy un fotógrafo en el sentido clásico de eso.
