Hustle Roses is the solo project of Ollie Stone from the Oolahs, their sound combines indie rock and 80’s pop with clever lyrics and a “don’t give a fuck attitude”.  Live, they sound huge and command the stage with professional intensity… They will probably get pretty huge, pretty soon so you oughta check them out ASAP.

When did you start the band and how did you come up with the name ‘Hustle Roses’?

I started developing my songs about 4-5 years ago. My name comes from a favorite Bukowski poem called “consummation of grief»

¿Cuándo empezaste la banda y cómo se te ocurrió  el nombre ‘Hustle Roses’?

Empecé a desarrollar mis canciones hace unos 4-5 años. Mi nombre proviene de mi  poema favorito de Bukowski llamado «consumación de la pena».

When and why did you start playing music? Did you start writing songs by yourself or with a group?

I’ve been playing music since I was about 5, professionally since 20 -I think. I was in a band called the oohlas.  When we started out, i had dozens of journals composed of melodies and lyrics, but wrote my first song on guitar with them. We co-wrote most of the songs in the band. I began writing by myself right around the time the oohlas went on hiatus.

¿Cuándo y por qué comenzaste a tocar música? ¿Comenzó a escribir canciones sola o con un grupo?

He estado tocando música desde que tenía 5, profesionalmente desde los 20- Creo.

Yo estaba en una banda llamada los oohlas. Cuando empezamos, tenía docenas de revistas compuestas por melodías y letras, pero escribí mi primera canción en la guitarra con mi banda. Co-escribimos la mayor parte de las canciones. Empecé a escribir por mi cuenta cuando los oohlas se tomaron un descanso.

Is there a balance you try to maintain between lo-fi melancholy songs like ‘Snuggie’ and more energetic songs like ‘Supernova’?

‘Snuggie’ is a low-fi Christmas song I wrote when I was a little sad during Christmastime – I had grown exhausted of hearing the same old holiday songs covered over and over. Generally though, I like to keep my music pretty intense, in yer face and high energy.

¿Existe un balance que intentas mantener entre canciones low fi melancólicas como «Snuggie ‘y canciones más enérgicas como’ Supernova ‘?

‘Snuggie’ es una canción de Navidad de low fi que escribí cuando estaba un poco triste durante Navidad – Yo me agoté de escuchar las mismos viejos covers de canciones de vacaciones una y otra vez. En general, sin embargo, me gusta mantener mi música muy intensa, y con mucha energía

What are some of your influences and what current bands do you have an affinity with?

PM Dawn, Ralph Tresvant, Primal Scream, Kendrick Lamar, Depeche Mode, Adam Ant, Doja Cat, Phil Collins, Azealia Banks, Nas, ‘Mccartney II’, all influenced me greatly this year.

What are your plans for the band in 2015?

I’m going to release an EP called “battleplanning.” this spring.  Tour a bunch, eat killer food, do cool shit, continue to improve myself.  Take over the world.

¿Cuáles son sus planes para la banda en el 2015?

Voy a lanzar un EP llamado «battleplanning.»,  esta primavera. Recorrer un montón, comer alimentos asesinos, hacer mierda fresca, seguir mejorándome. Tomar el mundo.
