Taxi Girl fue la banda de synthpop que Daniel Rozoum, más conocido como Daniel Darc, formó en Francia a finales de los años 80, y que con el single “Cherchez le garcon” pudieron tener esa efímera fama que muchas otras bandas también supieron disfrutar. Pero después de un tiempo, Taxi Girl, tuvo algunos inconvenientes en el camino: muerte por sobredosis de uno de los miembros de la banda, y la retirada voluntaria de otro de ellos. Estas cosas obligaron a que el proyecto de Daniel Darc, lentamente, fuera desapareciendo de las pistas de baile de Francia. Pero a pesar de estas cosas, Daniel, no tenía pensado bajar sus banderas, y decidió armar su carrera solista. Se tatuó prácticamente todo el cuerpo, quizá como una forma de exorcizar demonios del pasado, y se metió toda pastilla que pasaba cerca mientras destapaba casi todas las botellas de cervezas de los bares de París.

En 1987, Darc, tiró sobre la mesa su primer disco “Sous influence divine”, el disco había sido producido por Jacno, quien es reconocido por haber formado una de las primeras bandas punk de Francia “Stinky toys”. En este trabajo, Darc, ya se alejaba un poco de los sintetizadores y se olvidaba de su época con Taxi Girl, mostrando una faceta mucho más punk, en actitud y sonido. El producto final fue una mezcla que recordaba al mejor Iggy Pop de Blah blah blah cruzado con un Billy Idol de canciones como Rebel Yell.

Con el cuerpo cada vez más cubierto de tinta y el hígado cada vez más lleno de pastillas y alcohol, en 1994 lanza “Nijisnky” – el nombre del disco recuerda al gran bailarín ruso que sufría de esquizofrenia-. En este disco vuelve a la estirpe del primero, vuelve a las guitarras filosas y al rock que ya había mostrado, además agrega una pieza casi perfecta como “Le feu follet”, una canción que supera los 5 min con un piano oscuro y dulce que lo dejó a Daniel Darc a centímetros de personas como Jacques Brel, Alain Bashung, o el gran Serge Gainsbourg.

Después de unos meses sale a la calle un nuevo disco, bajo el nombre de “Crevecoeur”, un disco delicado y de canciones hermosas, un disco que le valió el respeto de muchos en Europa. Pero a pesar de lo bueno del material, la estampa de Daniel era irreconocible. Atrás habían quedado esos años mozos de Taxi Girl, la cantidad de Alcohol y pastillas habían hecho mella en su extraña belleza, solo quedaba una figura demacrada y cubierta de tatuajes. En los años que siguieron se dedicó a sacar discos tributos –quizá una forma de irse despidiendo de a poco, saludando a los que fueron una clara influencia en él, en su música y estilo de vida- homenajeando desde figuras como Johnny Thunders, Ninno Ferrer, hasta el multifacético Boris Vian.
